Government and Politics/Library and Information Science, Master of Arts/Master of Science

The combination of the Master of Arts (M.A.) Government in Politics and Master of Science (M.S.) Library and Information Science allows you to integrate two complementary bodies of knowledge. In this dual degree program, you will broaden and deepen your understanding of governmental structure, institutions, public administration, and political and legal processes, while simultaneously mastering contemporary means of accessing and managing related information.

Admission

You must meet the requirements of admission to both master’s programs. A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and at least 18 credits in government and politics or political science are necessary to indicate ability for advanced degree work.

Courses

As part of this dual degree program, you complete a total of 57 credits rather than the 66 credits required to pursue both degrees separately.

You complete curriculum requirements for each degree with four courses (12 credits) applying to both programs.

These exchange courses include:

  • GOV 205 Modern Political Research
  • GOV Elective
  • LIS 251 Information Sources in the Social Sciences
  • LIS 265 Online Database Searching and Services

You will also complete written comprehensive examinations in both areas.
