Overview
The Advanced Certificate in Finance is a 15-credit, graduate program designed to develop foundational skills in the critical functions necessary for success in finance. The advanced certificate program will sharpen your skills in evaluating potential projects and develop investment strategies in order to make value-enhancing decisions in your organization. The applied curriculum includes financial planning, forecasting, and implementation through case studies and hands-on exercises.
You will gain perspectives on contemporary finance theory and practice from a distinguished faculty comprising professors from St. John’s University’s Tobin College of Business and business professionals and experts.
This program offers the following benefits:
- Evenings and weekend classes are offered at our Queens or Manhattan campuses, or online, allowing you to stay on your career track and complete the program in two years.
- All advanced certificate program courses may count towards our Master of Science (M.S.) program in Finance
- Admission is based on a portfolio approach that considers work experience, veteran status and academic background (may include GRE or GMAT waiver).
- Prior graduate course work (up to six credits) may be transferred into the program, pending approval.
Applicants to The Tobin College of Business Graduate programs will automatically be considered for GMAT/GRE waivers for the 2022 and 2023 academic years. Applications with a GPA below 3.25 may be strengthened by submitting a GMAT/GRE score.
Students who earned their degree outside the United States must also submit a foreign credit evaluation and TOEFL/IELTS/DuoLingo scores.
Courses
The Advanced Certificate in Finance program requires two courses (6 credits) and three elective courses (9 credits) from the finance-related offerings of the Tobin College. The business core courses are as follows:
- FIN 607 Financial Management
- FIN 634 Investment Analysis
The advanced certificate program will also require three courses (9 credits) from any graduate finance-related course offered by the Tobin College of Business. Students must successfully complete all five courses within a three-year period.
Admissions
Application Requirements
All applicants must possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution or the international equivalent prior to enrollment at the graduate level. In addition to the application form and non-refundable application fee candidates should submit the following:
- Statement of professional goals and resume which can be uploaded as part of the application for admission
- Official transcripts from all undergraduate, graduate and professional schools attended.
- Two letters of recommendation, obtained from professional or academic references
- Official TOEFL or IELTS scores are required for applicants whose native language is not English
- Students with international credits must also submit a course-by-course foreign credit evaluation with GPA calculation from a NACES member
