For highly-motivated students, St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers a combined Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Master of Science (M.S.) program in Italian and Library and Information Science. The program allows you to complete your undergraduate and graduate degrees in five years of full-time study, with internships available at the graduate level.

The combination of the two degrees will prepare you for a career managing a library, information center, or information system with a global perspective. Your knowledge of the Italian culture and language will make you uniquely employable as a librarian or information specialist once you graduate with your master’s degree.

Current St. John’s University undergraduates interested in applying to a combined degree program or pathway should consult the appropriate Director of Graduate Studies and their undergraduate academic Dean.

Courses

While in your fourth year of undergraduate study, you will complete the following graduate Library and Information Science required courses:

  • LIS 203 Information Organization
  • LIS 204 Introduction to Library and Information Science
  • LIS 205 Information Sources and Services
  • LIS 239 Research and Evaluation Methods

Once you graduate with your B.A., you will complete LIS 240 (Management of Libraries and Information Centers) and 21 graduate elective credits in Library and Information Science to earn the M.S.
