My name is Dr. Eschenauer but most of my students refer to me as Dr. E. or Dr. Bob. I am an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Counselor Education. I became an adjunct at St. John's University shortly after receiving my doctorate and taught in both the counseling and special education programs. My full-time employment at that time was with the New York City Department of Education. I "wore many hats" during my 35 years with the D.O.E. that included special education teacher, educational evaluator, educational evaluator trainer, Assistant Clinical Administrator, Brooklyn West Region, and finally, school psychologist. In addition to adjuncting at St. John's I also served as an adjunct at Iona College where I taught in both the Family Counseling Program and psychology departments. I worked as an adjunct in Brooklyn College and taught in graduate programs of both literacy and special education. In 2003, I became a full-time assistant professor at Lehman College of the City University of New York and three years later, I came to St. John's as an assistant professor and Director of the counseling program. In July, 2015 I became the Chair of the new Department of Counselor Education. In addition to my teaching career, I maintained a private counseling practice for 33 years and closed the practice in July 2014.
