Ebtesam Ahmed, Pharm.D.

Clinical Professor

Dr. Ebtesam Ahmed, PharmD, MS, BCMTMS, is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Clinical Health Professions. In conjunction with her faculty appointment, she is the Clinical Pharmacist at the Supportive Oncology Clinic for the Brookdale Department of Geriatric and Palliative Care. She also holds adjunct appointments at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Misr International University.

A pharmacist and bioethicist by training, Dr. Ahmed completed her Doctor of Pharmacy at St. John’s University, a pharmacy practice residency at the University of California, San Francisco, and a Master of Science in Bioethics at Columbia University. She is Board Certified in Medication Therapy Management and is widely recognized for her expertise in palliative care, pain management, and access to essential medicines.

Her global leadership includes service as a Fulbright Specialist Scholar in India, a World Health Organization and United Nations consultant, and a long-standing Board Member of the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care. She has contributed extensively to international guidelines, consensus papers, and policy initiatives addressing the ethical and practical challenges of pain relief and palliative care worldwide.

Dr. Ahmed is a prolific author, with numerous book chapters, peer-reviewed articles, and contributions to the Oxford Textbook of Palliative Medicine and UpToDate. She is also an invited speaker at national and international conferences, sharing her expertise on cancer pain, deprescribing, medication safety, and global health policy.

Passionate about education, advocacy, and interdisciplinary collaboration, Dr. Ahmed’s career is dedicated to improving access to compassionate, evidence-based palliative care for patients and families across the globe.
