Policy 118 - The Storm Card

Section: Employment
Policy Number: 118
Responsible Office: Public Safety
Effective Date: 4/1/01
Revised: 6/1/16

All University employees are issued a University identification card, called the Storm Card, which should be carried at all times when on campus. The Storm Card certifies an employee’s affiliation with the University, and establishes proof of eligibility for certain University services, purchases and access control. Employees may set up a declining balance account on their Storm Card to be used in all dining facilities on campus, the libraries, bookstore, vending machines, University events, at entry/exit gates, etc. Money (cash or check) may be placed onto the account at the Storm Card Office, Bursar's Office or via UIS on the web. There is no balance requirement and money can be placed onto the account at any time throughout the year.

The Storm Card is the property of the issuer and is nontransferable. Use and acceptance of the card indicates agreement to abide by the terms and conditions that govern its use. Employees are required to carry this card and use it as a primary means of identification while on St. John’s University properties. If requested to do so, individuals must present or surrender the card to University administrators or persons performing duties within the scope of University Policy. If found, please return a Storm Card to Public Safety in the Storm Card Office Operations Center, ROTC (McDonald Center), Queens campus.

New employees are instructed to obtain their University identification card at the Storm Card Office located in the Department of Public Safety.

For more information, visit the Storm Card Office on the web. The fee to replace a Storm Card begins at $25.00. Each subsequent replacement card due to loss or neglect is $35.00 per card.
