Your StormCard is your personal connection to University services, purchases, and access control.
StormCard Online Photo Submission
The StormCard office is making it easier for you to get your ID card for the Summer 2024 - Fall 2024 semester. You can now upload a digital picture through our online photo submission portal.
**FALL 2024 - NEW STUDENTS**
If you are a new student and are scheduled for an orientation session during the summer, your ID card will be printed during New Student Orientation. Please do not submit a photo through this portal unless you know for sure you are not coming to an orientation session.
In addition to serving as your college ID, the StormCard provides the ability to set up debit accounts for purchases at the campus book store, dining facilities, computer labs, copiers, and printers. Purchases may also be made for personal training and various ticket events! The StormCard also provides access to campus gates, buildings and university events. As a St. John’s student, your StormCard is your pass for entry into the residence halls.
How do I add funds to my StormCard?
The StormCard has so many capabilities built into it that it will become the most functional card in your purse or wallet. Even better, it’s easy to use. The hardest part is going to be remembering all the things it can do for you:
- Identification
- Library card
- Access control
- Residence Halls
- Entry/Exit gates
- Events
- Bookstore
- Copying
- Micro-Lab printing
- Dining
Please make sure that you carry your StormCard with you while on campus at all times. You cannot enter the computer labs, library, gym, or residence halls without it. It is intended solely for your use.
This StormCard is the property of the issuer and is non-transferable. Use and acceptance of this card will indicate your agreement to abide by the terms and conditions that govern its use. You are required to carry this card and use it as your primary means of identification while on St. John’s University properties. If requested to do so, you must present or surrender your card to University administrators or persons performing duties within the scope of University Policy. If found, please return this card to the Public Safety Office, 24 hours a day.

Students may set up a Flex account at either the Office of the Bursar, the StormCard Office or on the Web through the Atrium - StudentLink found on signon.stjohns.edu. The funds placed on this account can be used for purchases made at the campus bookstore, cafeterias, photocopying, and printing. Place the funds on your account in advance of your purchase, and then simply use the swipe feature of the card to pay for your items. To replenish, you can place money on your account by check, cash or credit card at the Office of the Bursar or the StormCard office, or via the web (credit card only).
Flex accounts do not expire, so you can feel confident that the funds are safe and available to you when you need to use them. Please be careful when adding money to your card to insure you credit the proper account, as money is not transferable from one account to another.
You may set up a Dining Declining Balance account at either the StormCard Office, the Office of Financial Services or on the Web through UIS. To use the Web, simply log on to UIS, click Personal Information, then Manage your StormCard and use your credit card to add money. The money placed on this account can be used to purchase food items in all the dining facilities on campus. You can also place money on your account by cash, check or credit card in your name, by visiting the StormCard Office or the Office of Financial Services.
As a sign up bonus, each student starting their account with $100 or more will receive a 10% bonus, so if you deposit $100 when opening your account, you receive an extra $10 dollars on your account for a total of $110.
Please note the following:
- You cannot transfer funds back and forth between dining and flex.
- Dining Funds expire May 31 of each year, so make sure you use them up! Dining Funds are nonrefundable.
- To use a credit card, the card must be in your name.

The fee for your first StormCard replacement due to loss or neglect is $25. Each subsequent replacement card due to loss or neglect is $35 per card. This fee payable by cash, check, or credit card.
All the funds in your dining, Flex, and printing account will automatically transfer to your new card.
Find a StormCard?
If you find a StormCard, please return it to any Public Safety officer or office.
Always make sure that your StormCard is clean and not damaged. It is very important not to put any stickers or labels on your card as they might come off while in a card reader and damage the reader. Please do not punch holes into the card. Doing so will damage the card and you will be charged a replacement fee. Please do not keep the card near wireless chargers. Doing so will also damage the card and a replacement fee will be charged.
If a card reader (i.e., copy machine or printer) cannot read your card, wait a few seconds, wipe the stripe on your card and try again. If it still does not work, try another reader. This will help determine if there is a problem with your card or just that specific reader. If you need to come to the StormCard Office because of a problem with your card, please be as detailed as possible when describing the problem. This will help us to better assist you.
If you have any questions regarding your StormCard, visit us in the R.O.T.C. building located on Goethals Avenue outside of Gate 6 or call us at 718-990-6257; after hours 718-990-6281.
