Aaron Muth, Ph.D.

Dr. Muth comes to St. John’s University as an Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences in September 2016. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL (2012), a M.A. in Chemistry from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA (2007), and a B.S. in Chemistry from Binghamton University in Binghamton, NY (2006). His graduate research focused on the development of novel polyamine conjugates to target the polyamine transport system. Upon completion of his Ph.D., he joined the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at The University of Kansas as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. While at the University of Kansas, his research focused on the development of isoform-selective inhibitors of heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90). After two years at The University of Kansas he joined the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. While at UMass Medical School, his research focused on the development of protein arginine deiminase (PAD) inhibitors and subsequent probes. His research and teaching interests include medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry, and drug discovery with a research focus in protein-protein interactions.

Research Interests

Our research is focused on discovering novel inhibitors and subsequent probes of key protein-protein interactions. These chemical tools are then utilized as novel treatments for various cancers and to better understand key biological pathways.
