Jin Zhi

Assistant Professor
Dr. Zhi comes to St. John’s University as an Assistant Professor/Industry Professional in the Division of Mass Communication. He earned his D.Des. in film visual effects and 3D computer-generated imagery from Seoul National University in 2009. Before joining St. John’s, Dr. Zhi worked as a full-time permanent Senior Lecturer in universities in the United Kingdom (UK), and as a fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy. Dr. Zhi is a leading film visual effects artist, who firmly engaged with some well-known visual effects (VFX) studios. His work can be seen in various feature films, such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, John Carter, Prometheus, and Wrath of the Titans. Dr. Zhi also regularly publishes research papers in a series of international journals in his field. In 2016–17, Dr. Zhi successfully designed and delivered a funding project, VFX HE Online Mentoring Program, which was funded by the British Film Institute and the UK Creative Skillset and directly supported by senior professionals from three world-renowned visual effects studios and eight universities across the UK. The career opportunity offered within the College of Professional Studies is a strong match for Dr. Zhi’s well-rounded background. He is delighted to have the opportunity to apply his professional skills and knowledge gained in academia and the industry at St. John’s University.
