AI Ethics Committee

Founded by faculty within the Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies, the St. John’s University AI Ethics Committee brings together educators, scholars, and practitioners dedicated to shaping a human-centered future for AI use and integration across our academic community. Rooted in St. John’s Vincentian tradition and core commitment to academic excellence, ethical inquiry, and social justice, our committee examines how artificial intelligence impacts higher education, professional practice, and society at large. We serve as a collaborative hub for critical dialogue, policy guidance, pedagogical innovation, and interdisciplinary research—ensuring that rapid technological advancement remains firmly anchored in moral responsibility, respect for human dignity, and the search for truth. In keeping with our university’s metropolitan and global mission to serve others and advocate for systemic equity, the committee actively invites participation from interested faculty across all schools at St. John’s, as well as external academic partners, researchers, and industry leaders. We believe that addressing the complex ethical challenges of AI—from algorithmic bias and data privacy to the changing dynamics of the workplace— 2 of 2 requires a wide range of voices, academic disciplines, and perspectives.
