William M. Maidhof, PharmD

Dr. Bill Maidhof is an Associate Professor - Industry Professional in the Clinical Health Professions Department at the St. John’s University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. He graduated from St. John’s University in 1999 with a BS in Pharmacy, and again in 2003 with his Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Dr. Maidhof is currently the supervising pharmacist and director of the on-campus Rite Aid Pharmacy Laboratory, working with all second and third professional year students enrolled in the laboratory. His teaching is focused in the areas of physical assessment, a variety of prescription and nonprescription topics, as well as federal and New York State pharmacy law. Dr. Maidhof was awarded the 2012 John W. Dobbins Teacher of the Year Award, and was also an honorary faculty inductee into the St. John’s University chapter of the Rho Chi National Honor Society. Dr. Maidhof has presented numerous posters and has published articles on topics centering on the inclusion of innovative technology in pharmacy education and practice. His current research involves the use of portable tablet technology as an educational tool during patient counseling sessions in the community pharmacy setting. Other research topics include the role of Human Patient Simulation in pharmacy education, interprofessional teaching methods, and the utilization and benefits of automated dispensing technology. In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Maidhof is a preceptor and mentor for Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience students and PGY-1 pharmacy residents. He serves as a lecturer and proctor for the Comprehensive Pharmacy Board Review Program. Dr. Maidhof works closely with the New York State Board of Pharmacy and serves as the St. John’s University Site Coordinator for the planning and execution of the Part III Licensing Examination. He also teaches in the Physician Assistant program and invites Physician Assistant and Emergency Medical Services students yearly to the physical assessment laboratory where students participate in emergency treatment cases utilizing Human Patient Simulation. Dr. Maidhof is an active member of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). He was a three-time attendee of the APhA Self-Care Institute; two as the faculty representative from St. John’s University, one as a roundtable moderator. Dr. Maidhof attends the AACP Annual Meeting yearly and has served on the Programming Committee (2007-2009), the Nominations Committee (2009-2013), and most recently the CAPE Proposal Review Committee (2014) for the Nonprescription Medicines Special Interest Group of AACP.
