Joan S. Tropnas, Ph.D.

Associate Professor
My initial professional experience was in the area of child welfare. Working with children and families was both rewarding and challenging. I later went on to work in the public hospital system of New York City as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (NYS), Inpatient Psychiatry. Eventually I went on to lead Human/Social Service departments in two of the hospitals. Being part of hospital management gave me a broad perspective on healthcare and management and enabled me to hone my skills. I have also worked as a Research Coordinator for F.I.R.S.T. at Fordham University Graduate School of Social Science. At present I serve as the Division of Social Science Chair, and Program Director of Health and Human Services. My background has led me to be interested in research that includes health care disparities, with a focus on women and children. Teaching has allowed me to share my expertise with students and to serve as an advisor in regard to their career choices.
