Harold T. Broderick

Harold Broderick is currently an assistant professor at the College of Professional Studies. He previously served as an Adjunct Professor, Assistant Dean and Director of Operations for the College on the Staten Island campus. Assistant Professor Broderick is a decorated veteran of the New York City Police Department who served as a Police Officer, Detective-Investigator, Sergeant, Detective/Sergeant, Lieutenant and Lieutenant/Commander of Detectives. During his career in the NYPD he served in over twenty different patrol and investigative commands. Patrol assignments include the 1st, 5th, 6th, 9th, 62, 63, 66,120,122 precincts as well as the Mounted Unit in Manhattan. This strong and integrated background in patrol and investigative police assignments is an essential component of his teaching style within the classroom. The incorporation of practical experience combined with textbook and other salient assignments acts as a catalyst for learning. Engagement and response tends to increase in this format and student motivation and interest is enhanced. Throughout his distinguished career Broderick also served in a number of highly sensitive and confidential units such as the Organized Crime Control Bureau, the Street Crime Unit, the Legal Bureau, the Internal Affairs Bureau as well as several federal/city task forces. He was the Commanding Officer of City/Wide Anti-Gang Enforcement in the Special Operation Division as well as the 62 detective squad and the Staten Island Gang Squad. He was the lead investigator on a number of high profile and successfully prosecuted cases that include the murder of an off duty female police officer and the double homicide of 77 and 85 year old sisters which occurred in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. He supervised the NYPD’S first major internet criminal investigation as well as the first major case targeting an identity theft ring. These cases resulted in the execution of 52 search warrants and 89 arrests. Assistant Professor Broderick has participated in, planned, executed and/or supervised over seven hundred search warrants during his career. He assisted in the evacuation of the World Trade Center after the 1993 bombing and led his squad back to the Twin Towers as first responders on 9/11. The Mayor of the City of New York personally awarded Assistant Professor Broderick the Medal of Valor for his actions during a commercial robbery/hostage confrontation which took place on the Bowery in Manhattan culminating in a point blank shoot-out with three armed felons. Three female victims who had been assaulted were rescued. Assistant Professor Broderick holds a B.A. in History/Sociology; a Master of Public Administration and Juris Doctor Degrees.
