It’s my pleasure to share with you the most recent edition of our Global Initiatives Newsletter.
When thinking about what to share in these introductory comments, I reviewed the list of articles that we included to seek a common thread that might inspire my message. When I consider the table of contents of this issue, what strikes me is the variety of activities and programs that you will read about, and the way in which this issue is a microcosm of the work we do in the Office of Global Programs to advance the global mission of St. John’s.
I encourage you to delve into the diverse articles within this newsletter, each representing a unique facet of our global mission. Explore the stories of international students and scholars finding a home away from home, the enriching experiences of participants in the Global Passport Program, the innovative world of virtual exchange, and the vibrant tapestry of international programs on our Queens, NY, campus. These stories are but snapshots of the global engagement that defines St. John’s University.
Moreover, I invite you to mark your calendars for International Education Week (IEW), a celebration of our shared commitment to international education and engagement. IEW, taking place from November 13 through 17, is a joint initiative of the US Department of State and the US Department of Education. In the same way that this newsletter is a neat encapsulation of global engagement at St. John’s, International Education Week is a full week of showcasing global initiatives in the many forms they take. The week includes a range of activities from academic panel discussions with international faculty partners to food giveaways in the D’Angelo Center. We are finalizing the calendar of events and look forward to sharing the details with you soon.
Perhaps what both this newsletter and International Education Week highlight best is that the global mission of St. John’s is only achieved through collaboration. Thank you for being a part of this global community; I look forward to the exciting discoveries, collaborations, and experiences that lie ahead.
