Policy

Employment decisions are based on individual merit and, therefore, the University permits the employment of relatives with certain restrictions. For the purpose of this policy, the term relative shall mean related by blood or marriage.

An employee may not participate in decisions regarding the hiring, retention, performance, promotion, or salary of a relative. In addition, an employee shall not be in the position of direct supervision of a relative. Relatives who are employed by the University should be especially sensitive to the need to preserve impartiality and confidentiality. Breaches of privacy or confidentiality may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Inquiries regarding the policy should be made to HR Services at (718) 990-1502. Exceptions to this policy are made only with the approval of the Associate Vice President for Human Resources.
