The School of Education (TSOE) faculty, administrators, and staff were excited to welcome prospective undergraduate students and their families and friends to St. John’s University’s Open House on the Queens, NY, campus on October 14.
“St. John’s and The School of Education have so much to offer,” said James D. Wolfinger, Ph.D., Dean of The School of Education. “It’s a great pleasure to share our story and learn more about what future teachers want to bring to today’s schools.”
Faculty members eagerly answered questions. Don McClure, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Chairperson, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, described childhood and adolescent education programs. Yvonne Pratt-Johnson, Ed.D., Professor, Department of Education Specialties, shared insights into the five-year programs of study representing interdepartmental collaborative efforts to offer undergraduate and graduate degrees and multiple certifications. Senior Cassandra Joseph shared her views as a student enrolled in the Childhood and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) five-year program.
“Open House affords opportunities to showcase our student-centered, engaging, and relevant programming,” said Regina M. Mistretta, Ed.D., Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Student Experience. “It’s always great to see the next generation of teachers visiting us at St. John’s.”
“It was so nice to witness the enthusiasm of students and their families for all the amazing opportunities and programs we offer in The School of Education,” added Bernadette A. Zacharuk, Undergraduate Program Coordinator.
