New Director Brings Culture of Wellness to St. John’s Student Counseling Center
St. John’s University’s commitment to student wellness continues with the hiring of Jonathan W. Dator, Ph.D., MSCP, CGP, to oversee the newly rebranded Center for Counseling and Psychological Services. Dr. Dator, a licensed psychologist, joined St. John’s recently after eight years as Associate Director of Training at Providence College’s Personal Counseling Center.

St. John’s Partners with Catholic Charities in Social Justice Lecture Series

Students Donate Food, Other Essentials in Residence Hall Move-Out
A routine, end-of-school-year ritual became an opportunity for St. John’s University students to assist the needy and serve as responsible stewards of the environment. In cleaning out their residence hall rooms after the spring semester, students collected more than 2.5 metric tons of food, clothing, and household goods that were distributed to representatives of the Dax Program to support homeless students; St. John’s Bread & Life food pantry in Brooklyn, NY; and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Long Island.

St. John’s University Awarded $3M HECap Grant to Support New Basketball Practice Facility
St. John’s University has been awarded a $3 million New York State Higher Education Capital Matching Grant (HECap) that will be used to help finance the construction of a new state-of-the-art basketball practice facility adjacent to Gate 4 (175th Street and Union Turnpike) on the Queens, NY, campus.

St. John’s Secures Grant to Enhance STEM Outcomes for Underrepresented Minorities

Double Alumna Creates First Endowed Professorship in The School of Education
When the new Nursing Bachelor of Science degree was established at St. John’s, retired educator Mary Carole Schafenberg ’70Ed, ’80PD endowed a scholarship in her mother’s name. This year, she endowed the first professorship in The School of Education (SOE) for Special Education and Autism Education, a cause that is very dear to her.
