
Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in The School of Education at St. John’s University and their families enjoyed a Dean’s Hour during the University’s annual Family Weekend held on October 6–8 on the University’s Queens, NY, campus.
“Family support is so important for providing a sense of security and grounding for our students,” said James D. Wolfinger, Ph.D., Dean, The School of Education. “Our Family Weekend tradition is also a great chance to show off our beautiful campus.”
Faculty members were eager to share their expertise. Mary Ann Maslak, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, answered questions about study abroad opportunities at the University’s Rome, Italy, campus. Mary Beth Schaefer, Ed.D., Associate Professor, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, discussed her recent article published in the Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, “How Three Adolescent Girls Used Martial Arts to Make Meaning in a Pandemic.”
“Every year, we look forward to this annual tradition,” said Regina M. Mistretta, Ed.D., Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Student Experience.
Also present was Daniel Ness, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, who shared his latest book, Block Parties: Identifying Emergent STEAM Thinking Through Play. Senior Cassandra Joseph shared her expertise in conducting running records within the classroom.
“The weekend culminated on a high note, embracing an atmosphere of community and family,” said Bernadette A. Zacharuk, Undergraduate Program Coordinator.
