Center for Psychological Services
The University Center for Psychological Services provides therapy and psychoeducational testing services at low cost, using a sliding scale based on family income. Services are provided to adults, adolescents and children from the community in both English and Spanish. Services are free for members of the US military/veterans and immediate family. The Center also houses the Child HELP Partnership program, which offers free evidence-based mental health services to traumatized children and their caregivers.

Speech and Hearing Center
The University’s Speech and Hearing Center offers speech-language assessment and treatment, as well as complete audiological evaluations, including pure tone and electrophysiologic measures. Hearing aid testing and fitting, as well as sales are available. Diagnostic and treatment services are provided free of charge to University employees and their families. Hearing aids are sold at a significant discount through University pricing and include follow up care.
Specialty programs offered include men’s and women’s aphasia support groups, pre-literacy training through phono-skills groups as well as nursing home treatment using a Montessori based cognitive language stimulation approach. All services are informed by current evidence-based practices.

Other Services
Fully matriculated students have access to free medical and mental health services.
Student Health Services, provides students medical services similar to community urgent care to all St. John’s Students. Our team of dedicated Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses provide sick care first aid, send out laboratory services, on-site testing for strep throat, COVID-19, influenza, and urinary tract infections, referrals for imaging services (e.g., X-rays, ultrasound) and local primary care providers or specialists for chronic disease management. Additionally, each year Student Health Services hosts influenza vaccination clinics. Additionally, Student Health Services offers free 24-7 access to medical care to ALL enrolled students. Insurance is not required.
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), staffed by a team of psychologists, social workers, and licensed mental health counselors, as well as a part-time psychiatrist, offers free and confidential mental health services to SJU students. There are no session limits or waiting lists, and a clinician is always available to meet with students in need of immediate support. In addition, St. John’s has a Mental Health Helpline available to students 24/7.
Employees who experience an illness or injury should contact their primary physician and use normal health insurance channels. For questions about their health insurance coverage, employees should contact the Employee Benefits Office on the Queens campus.
Services for employees and their family members are available from the University’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Through the EAP, employees and their family members have free, confidential access to information, evaluation, crisis response, short-term counseling and referral services for a wide range of work-life, emotional and health and wellness matters.
