FAQs for Go Forward Employees
We recognize that institutional changes can be difficult—not only for those who leave, but also for those who remain. These FAQs are intended to address common questions and provide clarity as we move forward together.
About the Recent Changes
Why did St. John’s University make these changes?
The recent changes were made to better align our structure with our Strategic Plan Reimagined priorities and to ensure long‑term sustainability. These decisions followed careful review and were necessary to position St. John’s for future success.
Are there additional layoffs planned?
This work is part of an ongoing process to ensure our structure remains aligned with our priorities and the University's needs. As we move forward and business conditions evolve, we will continue to assess our needs with care and responsibility, guided by our mission and the long-term well-being of our community.
How were decisions made about who was impacted?
Decisions were made following a comprehensive review process that included an evaluation of roles based on institutional needs, business priorities, and how work will be performed moving forward.
Impact on Remaining Employees
Will my role or responsibilities change?
Some roles may evolve as we adjust how work is coordinated and distributed. If your responsibilities change, your manager will work with you to discuss and clarify expectations and priorities, and to provide available support so that you can succeed in your role.
Am I expected to take on additional work?
We understand that changes can create uncertainty. As responsibilities shift, we are being thoughtful about workload and capacity. While some responsibilities may shift, we are committed to prioritizing work and streamlining processes where possible. Leaders will continue to work with their teams to set clear priorities and support sustainable ways of working.
Will compensation or benefits change?
There are no immediate changes to compensation or benefits. We will continue to assess our structure and supporting elements as business conditions evolve, ensuring alignment with the University's priorities. We will communicate any future changes in advance.
Support, Well‑Being & Culture
How is the University supporting employee well‑being?
We recognize the weight of this moment and are committed to supporting our community. Employees are encouraged to access available support resources, including the Employee Assistance Program, and to connect with their managers or HR for support.
Is it okay to feel unsettled right now?
Yes. It is natural to experience a range of emotions during times of change. We encourage you to care for yourself and to remain in open and supportive dialogue with colleagues and leaders.
How can we honor colleagues who were impacted?
As a Vincentian community, we are called to respond with compassion, respect, and care for one another. We encourage teams to recognize impacted colleagues with dignity and professionalism, mindful of the significance of this moment.
Moving Forward
What are our priorities now?
Our immediate focus is on moving forward with purpose and supporting one another, stabilizing our operations, and continuing to advance our mission and Strategic Plan Reimagined in service to our students. Everything we do continues to be guided by our commitment to student success and the values that define St. John's.
How will leadership communicate updates?
Leaders will continue to engage directly with their teams to provide clarity, set direction, and address questions. Updates will also be shared through regular communications and internal channels to ensure connection and collaboration across the University.
