Joseph E. Oliva serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He joined the University in October 2000, and previously served the University as Vice President for Administration, Secretary, and General Counsel.
Mr. Oliva is responsible for overseeing key operational functions of the University to support its mission, goals, and strategic objectives. He directs and oversees Athletics, Campus Facilities and Services, Enterprise Risk Management, Human Resources, Information Technology, Internal Audit, Marketing and Communications, Public Safety, Student Success and Retention Strategy, and University Relations. As the University’s Chief Operating Officer, he plays a critical role in guiding organizational strategy, fostering innovation, and driving operational excellence across diverse areas of the institution.
Prior to his position at St. John’s, Mr. Oliva worked as a litigation associate at the firms Willkie, Farr & Gallagher LLP, and Garfunkel, Wild, P.C.
Mr. Oliva graduated summa cum laude from St. John’s University (B.S., Finance), magna cum laude from St. John’s School of Law, and summa cum laude from the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception (M.A., Pastoral Studies). Mr. Oliva is ordained as a permanent deacon in the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
