Effective Date: 2/22/26
SCOPE

POLICY
St. John’s University provides full-time administrators with enhanced sick leave beyond that provided by Policy 402 – New York Paid Sick Leave and New York City Paid and Unpaid Safe and Sick Leave. Employees should refer to Policy 402 for complete safe and sick time policy information.
A full-time administrator who by reason of personal illness or disability is incapable of performing the essential functions of their position, even with a reasonable accommodation, shall be eligible to receive a maximum of six (6) months paid sick leave. An administrator’s use of sick time may be continuous or intermittent, as necessary, but shall not exceed a total of six (6) months in any 12-month period, unless additional leave is required by law.
During an administrator’s first year of full-time employment, sick time usage is limited to a maximum of one month (140 hours), except as otherwise required by law.
If the administrator receives governmental disability or any similar benefits during a period of paid sick leave, the administrator shall be paid the difference between the benefits received and the benefits provided by this policy.
Vacation time does not accrue during any period of unpaid leave, nor during absences from work (paid or unpaid) of one calendar month or longer. See policy #401 Vacation for more information.
Upon separation from employment, sick leave has no monetary value and will not be paid out.
