The School of Education Celebrates Student Achievement at Awards Ceremony

More than 100 people attended the Dean’s Convocation Awards ceremony on April 18 as The School of Education celebrated St. John’s University’s mission, academic quality, and student achievement.

“It is an incredible honor to celebrate our amazing students with these awards,” said James D. Wolfinger, Ph.D., Dean, The School of Education. “They have shown academic excellence and a commitment to the St. John’s mission that make all of us—faculty, alumni, administration, and staff—proud.”

The dean’s office sponsors the annual ceremony to acknowledge outstanding students from the Departments of Administrative and Instructional LeadershipCounselor EducationCurriculum and Instruction, and Education Specialties who exhibit academic excellence. In addition, two University partnership awards were given in recognition of St. John’s connection to Catholic, public, and private schools and agencies that support the development of our future educators. Recipients included Christopher J. Pellettieri, Ed.D., Superintendent of Schools, Sachem Central School District, and Krystle Jimenez, Ed.D., Principal, and Carmen Montas, Assistant Principal, P.S. 019 Marino P. Jeantet School.

Jan Paul Pablo, a teacher at Saint Joseph Hill Academy on Staten Island, NY, received the St. Louise de Marillac Service Award, given to those who demonstrate a commitment to the mission of St. John’s. The award is given in honor of Mary Jane Krebbs, Ph.D., and St. Louise de Marillac. Dr. Krebbs, retired Associate Dean of The School of Education, spent her career in Catholic education as a leader serving at all levels: elementary, secondary, and University. St. Louise de Marillac, alongside St. Vincent de Paul, founded the Daughters of Charity, a group of women who dedicate their lives to help the sick, poor, imprisoned, and homeless.
