
The School of Education recently welcomed Lester W. Young, Jr., Ed.D., New York State Chancellor, Board of Regents, and Judith J. Chin, Member, Board of Regents, to St. John’s University for a discussion of challenges faced by K–12 administrators and educational leaders. The group also considered action steps to ensure the success of current and future leaders inside and outside of the classroom.
Hosted by Aliya E. Holmes, Ph.D., Interim Dean, The School of Education, and Catherine C. DiMartino, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Administrative and Instructional Leadership, attendees engaged in a thought-provoking exchange that included 15 local school superintendents and administrators from Long Island and the New York City Department of Education, as well as students, faculty, and alumni from across New York City, Long Island, and Westchester.
Dr. Holmes was joined by Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P., President, St. John’s University; Simon G. Møller, Ph.D., Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Distinguished Professor, and Provost Endowed Chair; and Anita Gomez-Palacio ’65Ed, ’89PD, Retired Executive Director of Operations, Council of School Supervisors and Administrators, and member, St. John’s University Board of Trustees, who extended greetings on behalf of the entire University community to the distinguished guests.
The Board of Regents is responsible for the general supervision of all educational activities within the State, presiding over the University and the New York State Education Department. It is organized into standing committees, subcommittees, and work groups whose members and chairs are appointed by the chancellor.
