Norean Sharpe

Norean R. Sharpe is currently Dean, and Joseph H. and Maria C. Schwartz Distinguished Chair, at The Peter J. Tobin College of Business at St. John’s University. The Tobin College of Business has 2,500 undergraduate business students, as well as 600 graduate students in one of seven MS/MBA programs, all supported by more than 150 faculty and staff on the Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, and Rome, Italy campuses.

Within the Tobin College is the Center for Excellence in Enterprise Risk Management, Center for Executive Development, Applied Finance Institute, and Center for Global Business Stewardship Center, as well as the acclaimed School of Risk Management, Insurance, and Actuarial Science. As Dean, Dr. Sharpe is responsible for managing all financial, strategic, and academic aspects of the College.

Since becoming Dean in 2016, Dr. Sharpe has focused on strengthening recruitment of students and faculty; enhancing the learning environment for students; launching the Tobin CEO Seminar Series; reaching out to alumni to grow the Tobin College Board of Advisors; working with the Career Services Center to increase access to internships and fulltime jobs; and collaborating with faculty to create new global opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Prior to joining St. John’s, Dr. Sharpe served as Senior Associate Dean at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University. She has more than 25 years of experience as a scholar and administrator at Yale University, Bowdoin College, Babson College, and Georgetown. Her research in causal models, time series analysis and forecasting has led to more than 30 articles and an internationally acclaimed textbook, Business Statistics, now in its fourth edition.

Dean Sharpe earned her B.A in mathematics from Mount Holyoke College and her Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia.
