Linda Shannon began at St. John's University in 1996 working with local high school students in the Liberty Partnerships Program at St. John's University. After 2 years she moved over to the Graduate Division of St. John's College of Liberal Arts & Sciences where she was an Assistant Dean. Since December 2000, she has been working with the Office of the Provost in various capacities, eventually becoming Associate Provost for Administration in 2008.

Her primary responsibility is oversight of the faculty tenure and promotion process, and coordinating with other units of the University to ensure academic compliance in response to the Department of Education's program integrity rules. 

She has served for 10 years as a member of the administrative collective bargaining team and for 3 years as secretary of the University Senate. In 2015, she assumed additional responsibility as the Institutional Accreditation Officer and serves as the University representative to the NYSED.
