More about the program

Catholic Scholars are part of a multi-disciplinary community of Catholic Leaders who join professors and Campus Ministers in monthly meetings, lectures, retreats, courses and prayer experiences that integrate faith, reason and service.

It's goals:

  • to integrate faith and leadership, inspiring fellow students throughout the college years.
  • Develop a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ as a University student.
  • Provide Catholic and Vincentian leadership initiatives for each of four years.
  • Conduct a special Study Abroad cohort focusing on Catholic leadership at our Rome, Italy campus.
  • Benefit from Campus Ministry, faculty and administrative mentors - and become a Catholic mentor.
  • Take part in on- and off-campus colloquia on Catholic Social Teaching, social justice and faith formation.
  • Find meaningful ways to apply faith-inspired leadership in their chosen field

This program is available to first-year students entering St. John's University. The Catholic Scholars Program offers $5,000 for each of your four years of study.

Future Catholic Teachers Scholarships are provided to cultivate exemplary educators committed to teaching in Catholic schools within the Diocese of Brooklyn. This selective scholarship opportunity will commence in fall 2025 and is available exclusively to undergraduate students aspiring to pursue a teaching career within the Diocese.

The scholarship awards $10,000 (distributed as $2,500 per year over four years of undergraduate study) to selected students who enroll in a teacher preparation program at St. John’s University. Scholarship recipients must sign an agreement committing to teach for at least four (4) years in a Catholic school in the Diocese of Brooklyn immediately following graduation.

As a Catholic university, we support families who are committed to a Catholic education. St. John’s University has created a Catholic School Scholarship which provides an annual award of $3,000, for a maximum award of $12,000 over four years of undergraduate study. This scholarship is automatically awarded to incoming freshmen who will be graduating from a Catholic high school and entering St. John’s in the fall.

Support for Mission and Vincentian Heritage

The Vincentian Center for Church and Society at St. John’s University originated in 1994 and continues to animate university-wide consciousness of the Vincentian charism, to encourage and support academic ventures, especially those related to social justice, and to serve and collaborate with the greater church and community in the spirit of Ex Corde Ecclesiae.  Working with and supporting faculty, the Center has deep roots in the Catholic Church serving the community at large with a number of educational programs. It is the site of many academic and cultural events, and the home of the Vincentian Chair of Social Justice.

This fund, begun in 2025 by the Vincentian fathers and Brothers who founded and sponsor St. John’s University, endows an academic chair and programs to preserve and deepen the Vincentian heritage of the University.

This fund provides faculty research grants that are aimed at the elimination of poverty or the remediation of its effects.

It may surprise you, but we have many students who use all of their resources for tuition and books! Some days, they need emergency help to have good nutrition.
