Driving Continuous Improvement

Carnegie Classification
Mission Assessment at St. John’s University aims to evaluate and strengthen the presence, value, and impact of the Catholic and Vincentian principles that shape the University’s educational experience. It generates data and meaningful insights used to achieve institutional assessment goals, and advances mission integration and engagement.
Mission integration and engagement—the intentional incorporation of Catholic and Vincentian values, identity, and charism into academics, programs, policies, and daily interactions—is assessed to reveal how the University mission is actively lived and experienced, and how it can be improved. These efforts deepen understanding of the University’s mission, vision, and heritage while promoting personal growth, an enhanced academic experience, service, social justice, and ethical leadership.

Catholic Identity and Mission Assessment (CIMA)
In summation, Mission Assessment drives the ongoing development of a distinctive Catholic and Vincentian identity both on and off campus, while supporting continuous University-wide improvement. As part of its responsibility to its ecclesial sponsor and for MSCHE accreditation, Mission Assessment will also continue administering the Association of Catholic Colleges and University's Catholic Identity and Mission Assessment (CIMA) surveys to new students, graduating seniors, and alumni. Collectively, these efforts ensure the University’s mission-driven work remains measurable, meaningful, and central to the student experience.
