Scholar in Residence

Heather C. Robertson, Ph.D., LMHC, CASAC, CRC, Professor and Chair of the Counselor Education Department, has been selected as the 2026–2027 Scholar‑in‑Residence for the Center for Faculty Success and Development (CFSD). Her appointment recognizes both her leadership and her deep commitment to strengthening the well-being, resilience, and connectedness of faculty across The School of Education and the University.

As part of her residency, Dr. Robertson will launch the Faculty Grounding and Wellness Program, an initiative designed to nurture faculty throughout the academic year. The program will offer Personnel Action Form (PAF) writing retreats, peer support groups, and wellness workshops—all facilitated by faculty, for faculty—to cultivate community, reflection, and restoration.

Dr. Robertson shared, “It’s been a hard year in higher education, and faculty are stressed, anxious, and worried about the future. We are all trying to do right by our students, teach with excellence, produce scholarship, and manage so much more. All of that becomes harder when uncertainty and isolation take hold. By hosting these programs, I hope to bring faculty together to support one another while developing meaningful coping strategies.”

Throughout the fall and spring semesters, the Faculty Grounding and Wellness Program will offer a series of opportunities for faculty to reconnect, recharge, and reaffirm their purpose. Guided by her belief that “you can’t pour from an empty cup,” Dr. Robertson hopes these experiences will help refill her colleagues’ cups—empowering them to continue the extraordinary work they do every day.

With her Scholar‑in‑Residence appointment, Dr. Robertson is charting a path that honors both the humanity and the brilliance of our faculty. Her work invites us to imagine a future where wellness is woven into the fabric of academic life—where faculty can flourish, innovate, and lead with renewed strength. This program is not just an initiative; it is an investment in the enduring excellence of our community.
