Anne Gill ’22Ph.D., a 2022 graduate of the Ph.D. in Literacy program in The School of Education, recently had an article published in the prestigious Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy.
“As an alumna, I continue to speak highly of the School’s exceptional curriculum, amazing faculty, and invaluable mentorship,” Dr. Gill said. “My time at St. John’s University provided me with formative experiences and research opportunities that shaped me into the educator and researcher I am today.”
The article, “The Instructional Implications of a Critical Media Literacy Framework and Podcasts in a High School Classroom,” was coauthored with her former mentor, Olivia G. Stewart, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Education Specialties, The School of Education. They discussed their article on a podcast, Podcasts and Critical Media Literacy with Drs. Anne Gill and Olivia Stewart.
Dr. Gill is currently an Assistant Professor of Social Studies Education at West Chester University. Now in her second year in the Department of Secondary Education and the Health and Physical Education Department, she closely works with preservice teacher candidates who plan to teach social studies at the secondary level. She teaches courses on culturally relevant pedagogy and methods for secondary social studies.
During the Fall 2024 semester, Dr. Gill conducted a study exploring how student teachers navigated teaching middle and high school students about the 2024 election. She remains passionate about leveraging podcasts as an innovative instructional tool, and plans to expand her research to the college level. Additionally, Dr. Gill continues her collaboration with Dr. Stewart to explore critical digital literacy practices in the classroom.
