QUEENS, NY. The School of Education at St. John’s University has secured a $385,928 incontinuation award from the U.S. Department of Education as part of the Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Grant Program for the 2026–2027 academic year. This award brings total federal funding for the University’s five‑year Project WINGS initiative to $3.17 million.
Led by Dr. Seokhee Cho, Project WINGS focuses on the development of mathematical talent among high-potential English learners and students with disabilities. In partnership with schools in New York City, Los Angeles, and Dallas, the project provides advanced mathematics learning opportunities designed to recognize and nurture students whose potential may not be fully reflected in traditional measures of giftedness.
Through advanced mathematics curriculum and instruction, teacher professional development, and research, Project WINGS examines how appropriate learning opportunities can help diverse students develop their mathematical potential.
The 2026–2027 academic year will be the final year of Project WINGS, providing an important opportunity to examine student outcomes and share effective practices with educators and researchers.
