St. John’s University’s Office of Global Programs invites you to participate in special events during International Education Week (IEW) November 17–21. Enjoy a Wula Drum group performance and drum lesson, international food tastings, courses in French or Italian, discussions with special guests, a job opportunity webinar, and more!
Student attendees will automatically be entered into a raffle for great travel prizes and gift certificates to local restaurants and businesses.

Monday, November 17
Wula Drum Performance and Snack Giveaway
1:30–3:30 p.m.
D’Angelo Center Living Room
In West Africa, drumming calls the community together. Enjoy an interactive performance of drumming and dance given by Wula Drum at 2 p.m. There will also be an international snack giveaway featuring treats from the top 10 countries from which St. John’s international students hail.
St. John's Global Mission Through Our Students' Experience
Hear from St. John’s students about how their experiences as international students, study-abroad students, and/or community-engaged partners fit into the St. John’s mission, and how these experiences have impacted their academics and career planning. This event is cosponsored by the Office of International Education, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and the Ozanam Scholars program (The Institute for Vincentian Impact).

Jeopardy Gone Global! (Game Night)

Get ready to test your knowledge and compete for prizes at International Game Night: Jeopardy Edition! This special Jeopardy-style game features categories inspired by cultures, traditions, languages, and fun facts from around the world. Curricular Practical Training and Optional Practical Training (OPT)

If you are interested in putting your knowledge and skills to work and gaining professional experience in the United States, attend this webinar! Learn about the difference between pre- and post-completion OPT, when to file your application for OPT, qualifying for a STEM extension, and traveling while on OPT.
Integrating the UN Sustainable Development Goals into Your Course
12:30–1:30 p.m.
This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Higher education institutions around the globe are enhancing their curricula by tying learning outcomes to these goals, providing students with direct insight into current global issues and their potential resolutions.
St. John’s faculty will present how they have integrated the UN SDGs into their courses and student activities and offer various resources to help you get started in integrating them into your courses and syllabi. Presenters include Phyllis Conn, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Core Studies; Heather Dunn, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Core Studies; and Anne M. Galvin, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Anthropology and Sociology.
Andiamo! Crash Course in Italian Language and Culture

Get ready to explore la dolce vita with this crash course in Italian! Whether you have an upcoming trip planned or are simply an enthusiast for other languages and cultures, this fun, interactive session allows you to practice the basics of the Italian language and gives you some insight on the cultural differences you may encounter in Italy.

Guided Tour of the United Nations with Visit to the Cuban Mission
10–11 a.m. Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations
11:30 a.m. check in at the United Nations for a guided tour at 12:30 p.m.
The Office of International Education is hosting an outing to Manhattan for a visit to the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations, followed by a guided tour of the United NationsHeadquarters. Learn about the Cuban Mission and its involvement with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Discover the history and inner workings of the United Nations, and get inside the General Assembly, the Security Council Chamber, the Trusteeship Council Chamber, and the Economics and Social Council Chamber. This event is free and open to the first 20 students who register. Instructions for the meet-up point in Manhattan will be sent to confirmed registrants.

Hosted by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, this dinner allows international students to connect, showcase their talents and cultural backgrounds, and share their experience in the US.
