CCPS's International Hospitality Management Program motivates Iris Diaz to obtain a Master's Degree

I was born in the Dominican Republic. My family immigrated to Queens, NY, in the mid 1960s and I have called New York home for more than 50 years.

In April of 2016, I achieved a long-term goal and became a staff member at St. John’s School of Law. Currently, I serve as Assistant Director of Special Events for the Law School.

For three years, I searched the St. John’s University website to identify courses that would motivate me to obtain a master’s degree. In mid-2019, a friend invited me to attend an informational meeting about the newly introduced Master of Science Degree in International Hospitality Management (IHM) program. I attended due to my interests in hospitality, marketing, and human resources. During the session, I met like-minded students, was pleased to hear about the courses offered—and knew I was going to apply. In the Fall of 2019, I attended my first class.

As an IHM student, you choose from a series of core courses including Marketing and Sales, Hospitality Analytics, and Decision Making. The elective menu offers you the opportunity to select from a variety of courses including Ecotourism and Sustainability, and Event and Festival Management. You also can experience the excitement of studying abroad through the International Internship.

Education is a vehicle used to obtain knowledge and skills, and strengthen your values and beliefs. Enroll in the IHM program and equip yourself with the tools to broaden your world.
