Amanda Marie Ferrandino gave St. John’s Staten Island campus its first news “station” by launching The Bolt Productions, an online hub for podcasts and other media that students produce in the University’s Communication Arts Audio Lab.

The John Dewey Society of The School of Education, Staten Island campus, hosted a Teacher Talk entitled Teacher as Writer: Writer as Teacher on October 19th, 2017. Dr. Dennis Carroll a) described the writing landscape, b) unfolded one’s “writing trail,” c) provided supportive strategies, and d) underscored messages that educators must deliver about the art of writing in today’s schools.
SJU Society of Physics Students Wins Prestigious Blake Lilly Prize
When she became President of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) chapter at St. John’s University in her junior year, Rachel Tyo ‘18C wanted to provide “more ways for students to enjoy physics.” Since then, she has worked ceaselessly toward that goal, and her efforts have resulted in the chapter receiving the 2016-2017 Blake Lilly Prize from the national SPS. “Rachel is like the Energizer Bunny,” said Associate Professor Charles Fortmann, Ph.D., who serves as faculty advisor to the SPS chapter. “She never stops.”

“We are messing with the foundations of life on earth for all living things,” warned Carl Howard, Esq., who has been the Assistant Regional Counsel for the Region 2 Office of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in New York City for the past 30 years. Howard delivered the lecture, “EPA, Climate Change, and You” to a standing-room-only crowd in D’Angelo, Room 416C on Monday, October 16, 2017 during Common Hour (1:50 – 3:15 p.m.).
Staten Island Campus Library Opening Reception "Renaissance: Five Years After Sandy"
You are cordially invited to the Opening Reception at the Loretto Memorial Library, the Staten Island Campus on Saturday, October 21st, 2-5p.m. Five years ago Hurricane Sandy devastated Staten Island. The resilience of Island residents is exemplified by images on display in this exhibit. Despite the pockets of abandoned houses and half-completed shoreline projects, there has been recovery as well. Development and population growth are evident Island-wide. All the works on display are created by members of the Creative Photographers Guild and St. John’s University students of Professor Frisch-Cherniak.

Speaking to the standout nature of the Red Storm student athlete both on the field and in the classroom, the St. John’s men’s and women’s soccer programs have both been honored by the United Soccer Coaches with the organization’s team academic award for 2016-17.
Students Focus on Criminal Justice System from the “Inside Out”
