William Reisel, Ph.D. and Esteve Jimenez ’16TCB, ’17MBA

When asked about the best advice he has ever received and who provided it, Esteve Jimenez says William D. Reisel, Ph.D., Professor of Management at The Peter J. Tobin College of Business, comes to mind.
“What he said was so simple, but it helped me believe in myself,” said Esteve. “He told me, ‘no matter what odds you are up against, never give up because there is always someone out there who believes in you.’”
A first-generation university graduate, Esteve completed the Tobin College’s M.B.A. program in Executive Management last spring. He earned his B.S. in Business Management in 2016. According to Esteve, Tobin is a cut above other business schools. “Any school can give you textbooks and teach off of a slide,” he observed. “But being so close to the financial capital of the world means our professors actually work in their respective fields.”
Esteve stood out as well, said Dr. Reisel, who has taught at St. John’s for the past 19 years. “He had the determination to go beyond the requirements for his degree,” said the Professor. Under his guidance, Esteve took a distinctive approach to his 80-page thesis. “I created an analytical report based on the issues that were currently impacting a company,” he said of his project, entitled “A Strategic Analysis and Growth Plan for Nike, Inc.” It offered recommendations and implementation strategies for Nike to regain market share by 2018–20.
“I love teaching because I can share knowledge with young people getting ready to make their mark in the world,” said Dr. Reisel. “Bottom line: I am having a great time at Tobin, and that comes from working with great students like Esteve.”
