The Uniondale School District recently welcomed Rhonda Latty ’13GEd, ’20Ed.D. as the new Director of English Language Arts.
“The School of Education has been instrumental in shaping my growth as an educator and leader,” Dr. Latty said. “The knowledge, mentorship, and experiences I gained there have deeply influenced my journey, preparing me to serve the Uniondale community with purpose and vision.”
Dr. Latty has more than 15 years of secondary education experience and has been a Uniondale School District English language arts teacher and summer school coordinator for the past 10 years. Prior to joining Uniondale, she was an educator with the New York City Department of Education.
In addition to her role in the classroom in Uniondale, Dr. Latty is a founding adviser of My Sister’s Keeper — a student leadership and empowerment organization—and has contributed to numerous district committees and initiatives.
Dr. Latty began her journey in education by earning her bachelor’s degree in secondary English education from Temple University in 2010. At St. John’s, she earned a Master of Science in Education degree in School Building Leadership in 2013 and completed her Doctor of Education degree in Administration and Supervision in 2020. She was born in the Commonwealth of Dominica, raised in Queens, NY, and currently resides in West Hempstead, NY.
As the Director of English Language Arts, Dr. Latty fosters culturally responsive environments where students develop a lifelong love for literacy and the confidence to become critical thinkers, strong writers, and effective communicators. “I am honored to step into this new role, where I can continue to impact students and teachers—just as St. John’s has impacted me,” she said.
