Aqueena Alexander, a junior in the Cyber Security Systems program, was recently the recipient of a $10,000 Presidio Future Built Scholarship award, which assists students pursuing an undergraduate degree in a STEM-related field.
“I applied for the Presidio Future Built Scholarship because it is aimed at minorities in technology and aligns with my identity,” she said. “It also aligns with my goal to help others achieve their goals in technology.”
Applicants must meet either or both of the following criteria: they must self-identify as a racial or ethnic minority and/or self-identify as female. In addition, applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above and volunteer in their community.
“My internship as a Web Development Coordinator at Presidio LLC in the Summer of 2022 allowed me to experience their work culture and I enjoyed being around that environment,” Aqueena said.
She is an active student on St. John’s Queens, NY, campus who plans to serve as Social Media Coordinator for the ACM Student Chapter for the 2023–24 academic year, as well as a Senior Resident Assistant.
Aqueena was inducted into The Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies Honor Society in the Fall of 2022. In addition, she is a member of the Ozanam Scholars Program, a mentor in Project AIM and the R.I.S.E. Network, and a Peer Leader Coordinator in the Discover New York program.
She currently interns at ServiceNow as an Information Security Analyst and is set to graduate in May of 2024.
