October 25, 2021

The 22nd class in the history of the St. John's Athletics Hall of Fame was inducted on Saturday night during an on-campus ceremony as part of the University's Homecoming Weekend.

The celebration recognized the accomplishments of nine monumental figures in the history of the sport, as national champions, BIG EAST champions and Olympic medalists were recognized for their outstanding contributions to St. John's Athletics.

The 2021 inductees spanned sports and generations.  Men's basketball greats Mark Jackson and Joe DePre were enshrined, as was two-time College World Series participant Ralph Addonizio.  The class also featured legendary track & field coach Jim Hurt, two-time BIG EAST Women's Golf Champion Harin Lee and three-time All-American quarterback Todd Jamison.  Former Red Storm standout and current assistant coach Shenneika Smith was also enshrined, as was men's soccer All-American and national champion Kevin Daly and four-time All-American and Olympic medalist Dagmara Wozniak.

The evening began with a private dinner for honorees and their families followed by a formal reception in The D'Angelo Center.  Each inductee was presented by a former teammate, coach or friend before giving remarks of their own.

During his introductory remarks Athletic Director Mike Cragg explained why the resuming and continuing the tradition of the Hall of Fame is so important to the overall goals of the department and the University.

Established in 1984-85, the St. John's Athletics Hall of Fame consists of nearly 160 members representing the majority of the Red Storm's current sports teams as well as discontinued programs. In addition to former student-athletes and coaches, numerous administrators and honorary members have been inducted into the Hall for their valued contributions and accomplishments during their time associated with St. John's Athletics.

To nominate an individual for future consideration in the St. John's Athletics Hall of Fame, please submit the nominee's name and supporting information to Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Relations Stephen Dombroski at [email protected].
