Two students enrolled in the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science (GSRM) at St. John’s University were recently announced as this year’s winners of Insurance Insider’s Donald J. Greene Student Excellence Award.
Marco G. D’Ambrosi, a senior from Staten Island, NY, and fellow senior Lily X. Fitzpatrick, of Whitestone, will be acknowledged as part of Insurance Insider’s upcoming Inside P&C Honors Awards on Tuesday, September 28, an event that will be held virtually.
“As someone who is heading into the Property and Casualty side of insurance after graduation, the Donald J. Greene Student Excellence Award is a tremendous honor,” said Marco.
“I will strive to live up to the high expectations of this award, and I am eager to pay forward what I have learned.”
Lily expressed a similar sentiment. “I am deeply honored to be a recipient of the Donald J. Greene Student Excellence Award,” she said.
“This will be a great advancement for my career, as well as my experience at the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management.”
The award recognizes the top two GSRM students who exhibit distinction in both the classroom and the workplace, as well as leadership in the community. It was established two years ago; it is named for Donald J. Greene, a well-recognized and highly esteemed insurance industry attorney and School of Risk Management Board member emeritus who passed away in 2019.
“For decades, Donald J. Greene was an iconic figure at the intersection of the disciplines of law, insurance, and risk management,” explained Brandon W. Sweitzer, Dean, Greenberg School of Risk Management. “He played a crucial role building the base of what is now the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management.”
Each award includes a $1,500 scholarship, sponsored by QualRisk. Michael Pritula, Vice Chairman of the GSRM Board of Overseers, is Managing Director of QualRisk.
“We are pleased that Marco and Lily have built a strong base of academic and experiential learning at the Greenberg School,” Mr. Sweitzer added. “They are most worthy recipients of the award that perpetuates the honor of Don Greene. We also thank Mr. Pritula for his generosity in funding the awards so deservedly won by these two fine students.”
