St. John’s University’s online degree programs are among more than 1,200 programs surveyed by U.S. News. Only regionally accredited institutions whose programs are offered mostly or entirely online were evaluated.
For the 2020 edition, U.S. News assessed more than 1,600 online degree programs—an all-time high. The rankings measure overall academic quality and are across varying disciplines. U.S. News further ranked 242 programs across 18 more specialized focuses such as M.B.A. Finance and Nursing Family Practice. Also, U.S. News updated the methodology this year to give credit to schools that provide online help with course registration, admissions counseling, and building a résumé.
The Peter J. Tobin College of Business offers two online Master of Science programs: the M.S. in Accounting (M.S.A.) and the M.S. in Taxation (M.S.T.). Each Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business-accredited program prepares students for a career, whether in public accountancy or in management positions in industry, government, or not-for-profit organizations. The M.S.A. fulfills the educational requirements for licensing as a C.P.A. The estimated time for completion of each is 12 to 24 months.
According to Norean R. Sharpe, Ph.D., Dean of The Peter J. Tobin College of Business and Joseph H. and Maria C. Schwartz Distinguished Chair, the high quality of online curriculum and faculty contributed to the jump in the online M.S. rankings.
“We continue to focus on recruiting and retaining top scholars and our online M.S. programs are taught primarily by full-time faculty,” she explained.
The School of Education’s online Master of Science program in Education is now ranked #31 in the country according to the latest U.S. News Best Online Graduate Education Program rankings. This ranking places St. John’s in the top 10 percent of online Education master degree programs nationwide.
David L. Bell, Ed.D., Dean of The School of Education, stated, “With talented faculty scholars and researchers committed to providing students with an engaging, convenient, and supportive learning experience, the reach of online programs at The School of Education is limitless.”
The School of Education offers three full M.S.Ed. programs that are available online through distance learning. The Department of Education Specialties offers a 33-credit degree program in Teaching Children with Disabilities in Childhood Education and a 33-credit degree program in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages PK-12 (TESOL). The Department of Administrative and Instructional Leadership offers a 34-credit program in School Building Leadership. Each program can lead to New York State certification and most states offer some form of reciprocity with New York through NC-SARA.
“At St. John’s University, our committed faculty strive to meet students wherever they are found,” remarked Simon G. Møller, Ph.D., Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “External recognition by U.S. News of our online programs affirms our continued efforts to ensure student success.”
