After tying for the highest team grade point average among all US Division I soccer programs, St. John's University’s Women's Soccer team has been named a recipient of the United Soccer Coaches' Team Academic Award—the 15th occasion on which the squad earned the accolade.
Under the direction of Head Coach Ian Stone, St. John's tied the University of Cincinnati for the highest GPA among Division I women's and men's programs with a 3.79. Four of Coach Stone's players recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA for the year, while 26 made the Dean's List.
“For our team to achieve the highest cumulative GPA of all of the 333 Division I women's soccer programs in the country last year is truly remarkable,” Coach Stone said.
“This honor speaks volumes about how driven and motivated these wonderful student-athletes are. Credit should also be given to the fantastic support they get on a constant basis by caring individuals throughout our Department of Athletics and the University.”
United Soccer Coaches, the national coaches association for college programs, recognizes exemplary performance in the classroom with its annual Team Academic Award. The organization honored 989 women's and men's teams across all divisions for maintaining a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale during the 2018–19 academic year. The Johnnies have claimed the award in three consecutive campaigns and 14 of the last 16 overall.
