In recognition of its demonstrated innovation and research excellence in finance, The Peter J. Tobin College of Business has been awarded the 2019 WRDS-SSRN Innovation Award for the North America region by Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS), Elsevier, and SSRN.
The WRDS-SSRN Innovation Award series honors business schools that make a commitment to financial research and see that commitment result in increased publications and citations of faculty research. Each year, three winners are selected from across North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
The finance faculty and leadership of the Tobin College are proactive in the development of research and programming that focuses on financial technology (fintech), the term used to describe the innovative application of technology to financial services. In fact, this year, the College launched a trio of new courses that focus on fintech, as well as a fintech track for its Master of Science in Finance program.
“Our faculty recruitment and reward efforts over the past several years have focused on attracting and retaining faculty who prioritize research, and we are proud of their productivity,” said Norean R. Sharpe, Ph.D., Dean, Joseph H. and Maria C. Schwartz Distinguished Chair, and Professor of Decision Sciences, The Peter J. Tobin College of Business.
“Research is critical for our faculty to effectively deliver a valuable educational experience for our students.”
In 2017, WRDS collaborated with SSRN to elevate the visibility, impact, and credibility of academic research and the faculty who conduct it, through the award series as well as other programs. Accepting the award on behalf of Tobin at the September 16 ceremony was John J. Neumann, Associate Dean of Faculty and Associate Professor, Economics and Finance, The Peter J. Tobin College of Business.
“I am very pleased to congratulate The Peter J. Tobin College of Business on this award,” said Bob Zarazowski, Managing Director, WRDS. “It is wonderful to be able to recognize their business education program, which has shown a tremendous commitment to advancing academic research.”
