During the fall semester, the Student Society of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SSHP) held their annual Residency and Fellowship Showcase, as well as a Residency and Fellowship Workshopin collaboration with the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), Industry Pharmacists Organization (IPhO), and The Rho Chi Society.
An informational workshop, “Navigating the Residency and Fellowship Showcase,” was given by Maureen Kerr, Director of Employee Relations and Career Advisor, University Career Services, one day prior to the annual showcase. More than 20 students attended the workshop, which discussed residencies and fellowships, what to expect at the showcase, and tips on how to successfully navigate the showcase, including what questions to ask.
The showcase featured more than 40 postgraduate programs and provided pharmacy students with the opportunity to meet with residents, preceptors, and other key personnel from various institutions in the region. Students were able to network and learn about different programs to make informed decisions regarding their future and postgraduate training.
An additional workshop event was held following the showcase where students met and networked with a panel of eight experienced practitioners from different residency and fellowship programs. The event allowed students to ask questions and learn more about residencies, fellowships, and how to prepare for the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting.
