Speaking to the standout nature of the Red Storm student athlete both on the field and in the classroom, the St. John’s men’s and women’s soccer programs have both been honored by the United Soccer Coaches with the organization’s team academic award for 2016-17.
In order to be eligible for the award, a squad must carry a composite GPA above 3.0 for the entire academic year.
2017 marks the 13th time that the men’s soccer team has taken home the honor and the 14th occasion that the women’s squad has garnered the accolade. The men’s team has claimed the award in eight straight seasons, while the women’s team has done so in 10-straight years and 13 of the last 14 overall.
The women’s soccer team returns to action this evening, traveling to Providence for a 7 p.m. match with the Friars. Tomorrow, the men’s soccer squad will take on the Bluejays of Creighton in Omaha, Neb. First kick is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
