Adding to an already impressive coaching resume, St. John’s women’s soccer assistant coach Jen Leaverton has been named to the United Soccer Coaches 30 Under 30 class, the organization announced on Tuesday.
“I’m extremely excited and honored to have been selected to this year’s 30 Under 30 class,” Leaverton said. “I am looking forward to all of the education opportunities, mentoring and professional development that I will be exposed to as a member of this prestigious group.
Leaverton, who is in her third year as an assistant under head coach Ian Stone, adds this honor to a resume that also includes 2015 NSCAA Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year praise and a share of the 2015 BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year accolade. Leaverton has been instrumental in guiding the Red Storm to some of its finest seasons in program history, including the team’s first-ever BIG EAST Regular Season title during an historic 2015 campaign.
“Jen is one of the most promising young college soccer coaches in the country,” Stone said. “Being deservedly selected for, and participating in, the prestigious 30 Under 30 program will only help to enhance her rapid evolution as an elite coach due to the mentorship, licensing and other development opportunities.”
Leaverton, a native of Mansfield, Mass., was one of 15 women and 15 men selected to the class from more than 300 applicants.
Launched in 2013, the 30 Under 30 Program is a year-long education and mentorship opportunity designed to support up-and-coming members of the coaching profession who are 30 years of age or younger.
Each participant receives an educational scholarship which provides registrations for the United Soccer Coaches Convention and an Advanced Diploma course of the coach’s choosing, as well as a travel stipend to cover costs for attending these events. In addition, members of the 30 Under 30 Program are matched with a mentor dedicated to fostering their growth in the game and expanding their coaching network.
