- Caribbean Writers Series to Sponsor Author Discussion on April 15
Please mark your calendars and attend this year’s Caribbean Writers Series event, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 15, in room 128 of the D’Angelo Center on St. John’s University’s Queens, NY, campus.
Dr. Chancy, who was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, will read from and engage in conversation about her soon-to-be-released novel, Village Weavers (Tin House, April 2024). She is also the author of four other novels, most recently the acclaimed What Storm, What Thunder (Tin House, 2021). She has published five books of criticism and essays, the latest being Harvesting Haiti: Reflections on Unnatural Disasters (University of Texas Press, 2023).
A question-and-answer session follows her reading. Her books will be available for purchase and she will sign them at the conclusion of the event, accompanied by food and continued conversation.
This event aligns well with the University’s mission to think globally and engage in questions of social justice, and is especially timely in light of Haiti’s current political crisis. It is cosponsored by the Academic Center for Equity and Inclusion, the Institute for Critical Race and Ethnic Studies, University Libraries, the Office of Equity and Inclusion, the Department of English, St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Office of International Education, and Lambda Pi Chi/Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad, Inc.
If you have any questions about the event, please email Raj Chetty, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of English, at [email protected].
