Dr. Ipshita Pal receives grant from the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM)
Ipshita Pal, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Division of Health and Human Services, College of Professional Studies has received a grant from the Society of Human Resource Management. The grant will be use to fund a study on employee Health and well-being in the US. This grant is a continuation of Dr. Pal research in this area from her time at Columbia University. English Ph.D. Student Wins “Scholars for the Dream” Award
Only 20 students from around the country are chosen each year to receive the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) Scholars for the Dream Travel Award, but Sammantha McCalla ‘99CBA, ‘01MBA is the second St. John’s University student to earn this recognition. The award, which Sheeba Varkey ‘03C, ‘07Ed won in 2016, provides $1,000 in travel funds for the CCCC Annual Convention.
Federal Support Grows for Faculty Research at St. John’s
Reflecting the University’s commitment to promoting meaningful, cutting-edge research, St. John’s faculty and administrators were awarded more than $11.2 million in major grants during the 2017 fiscal year.
Change in Overnight Hours at the Queens Library
St. Augustine Hall will close Saturday, September 23 @ 6:00pm and reopen Sunday, September 24th @ 12noon. Therefore there will be no overnight study hours on Saturday, September 23rd @ 6:00pm as originally scheduled.

Support for Women in the Sciences Starts Early at St. John’s
Inspiring young women from local middle and high schools to pursue degrees in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields, St. John’s University hosted 50 eighth- and ninth-graders for a day of hands-on learning this summer as part of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum’s GOALS for Girls program.
Trip across the Atlantic Complements Students’ Africana Studies Course Work

Chemist Discusses Science Communication with Alan Alda
At the request of the American Chemical Society (ACS), an organization that has honored him many times over his career, Chemistry Professor Neil D. Jespersen, Ph.D., attended the World Science Festival from May 30 – June 4, 2017 in New York City. At the event, Jespersen met actor Alan Alda, founder of the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University, and the two discussed how to improve chemistry teaching.
