
Heather C. Robertson, Ph.D., LMHC, CRC, CASAC, Chair and Professor, Department of Counselor Education, The School of Education, was honored by Transitional Services for New York, Inc. with their 2023 Educator of the Year Award at their annual gala event held at Leonard’s Palazzo in Great Neck, NY, on October 3.
“I am grateful and humbled to receive this award,” Dr. Robertson said. “I am proud of my efforts to help those with mental illness and encourage my students to provide empowering services to this population.”
Besides serving as Chair and Professor, Dr. Robertson does clinical work with clients in outpatient substance use, vocational rehabilitation, and employee assistance programs. She has also served as a career counselor for military veterans in transitional housing shelters. Dr. Robertson’s teaching, scholarship, and practice in clinical mental health and addiction services have earned her numerous awards.
“Dr. Robertson’s contributions to the counseling profession are many,” said Gina Cicco, Ed.D., Associate Dean, Staten Island, NY, Campus, and Associate Professor, Department of Counselor Education. “She has served clients in substance abuse, transitional, and vocational rehabilitation settings and has conducted a great deal of research on military veterans. Her commitment to her clients, faculty, and students is inspiring, as is her desire to further mental health awareness. This award is well-deserved, and we at The School of Education are so proud to congratulate her on this honor!”
