The St. John’s University Cybersecurity Center was recently designated a Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) in Cybersecurity Defense through the academic year 2027.
“St. John’s Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security Systems program prepares students for positions in the cybersecurity field and helps them advance their professional development through self-directed learning and/or graduate study,” explained Erald Troja, Ph.D., Coordinator of the B.S. in Cybersecurity program, and Assistant Professor, Division of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Science. “The Cybersecurity Center is the central point of information with respect to the multidisciplinary research, education, training, and practice in the field of Cybersecurity which was created with the vision to provide current and future St. John’s students with Cybersecurity program guidance and general information, as well as to promote collaboration and interaction with other students, faculty, and programs within St. John’s University and the Cybersecurity community.”
Through the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity program, the US Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency/Central Security Service designate colleges and universities interested in advancing the study of cybersecurity in a national effort to defend US government, business, and infrastructure sectors. An institution must pass rigorous cybersecurity curriculum and program requirements.
“Thank you to Joan E. DeBello, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Chair, Division of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Science, and Simon G. Møller, Ph.D., Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, University Distinguished Professor, and Provost Endowed Chair, for their unwavering support in this effort,” Dr. Troja said.
