St. John’s University Collaborates with the Institute of Certified Records Managers (ICRM) to Accelerate Graduates’ RIM Certification

The Institute of Certified Records Managers (ICRM) and St. John’s University’s Division of Library and Information Science (DLIS) have formed a strategic partnership to allow graduates of the Master of Science in Library and Information Science degree program to accelerate their path to earning Records and Information Management (RIM) certification.

“This successful partnership is an excellent opportunity for our St. John’s students to earn credentials through the Institute of Certified Records Management,” stated Gina M. Florio, Ph.D., Interim Dean, St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The ICRM, incorporated in 1975, is an international certifying organization of and for professional records and information managers. It was created to meet the requirement to have a standard by which persons involved in records and information management could be measured, accredited, and recognized according to criteria of experience and capability established by their peers.  

The ICRM/St. John’s partnership offers students the opportunity to receive credit for parts 1–5 of the ICRM exam, with eligibility to apply to accept the Certified Records Analyst designation, and/or sit for part 6 of the ICRM exam for the Certified Records Manager (CRM) certification upon graduation and proof of one year of professional experience.

“Developing academic partnerships has been a cornerstone of the institute’s strategy to embrace graduates entering the RIM profession who complete relevant degree programs,” explained Rae Lynn Haliday, M.B.A., C.R.M., Chair of the ICRM Strategic Alliance Committee. “We are thrilled to welcome St. John’s University to our network of university partners.”

Consistent with St. John’s University’s Vincentian mission, the Division of Library and Information Science’s online graduate program is committed to service and social justice. Accredited by the American Library Association, it is designed to prepare innovative critical thinkers to become ethical leaders in the records and information management profession.
